My Involvement with the Wonderful SON Valley Charity
Based just outside of Canton, Mississippi, SON Valley is a Christian care facility for mentally retarded and developmentally disabled adults. Baptist Homes, Inc., the organization that founded SON Valley, did so out of recognition for a need that was going desperately unserved.
Why SON Valley Was Founded
The issue the founders of SON Valley saw was that most places and programs assist the parents of those with intellectual disabilities under twenty-one years of age, but what happens to those disabled children once they reach adulthood if their parents can’t continue taking care of them forever?
Fortunately, the state of Mississippi donated an eighty-acre tract of land to Baptist Homes Inc., and others started donating to the organization’s fundraising program.
As of right now, we have two homes built: ten ladies occupy one house, while the other house is home to five ladies and five men. These individuals get their physical, spiritual, mental, vocational, and recreational needs met for a lifetime in a truly Christian space.
SON Valley and Ronald Morton
How does all this relate to me?
Well, I’ve been president of this Christian community for the past six years. I also have the privilege to assist clients in special needs planning through Morton Law, so I see firsthand the tremendous value and peace of mind SON Valley provides.
Because of this, I wanted to take the opportunity to spread awareness about this one-of-a-kind Mississippi facility. We encourage you to donate or get involved in any way you can.
It makes an amazing difference in the lives of these disabled adults and their families!
